Maintenance of Potala Palace boosts tourists volume

"Potala Palace can receive over 1,000 tourists every day right now due to the two-phase maintenances and our country's policy on culture heritage protection," said by Qamba Kelzang, director of Potala Palace Management Center.

Potala Palace received its second maintenance in 2002 with 170 mln yuan (about 21.25 mln USD) investment following its first phase reinforcement in 1989-1994 with 55 mln yuan(about 6.88 mln USD) investment. The second-phase maintenance is carried out smoothly right now and has finished 90% total investment.

According to the statistic data of Potala Palace Management Center, Potala Palace receive over 400,000 tourists annually in recent years and over 1,000 tourists every day.

In the peak season of tourism, Potala Palace sells 2,600 tickets every day to meet the demand of tourists from home and abroad.

Potala Palace can not receive so many tourists without the two-phase maintenances carried out by the central government, said by Qamba Kelzang.
