A renovation project for Ramoche Monastery invested by China and Switzerland started construction on April 27. This is the first time for China and Switzerland to cooperate for Tibetan cultural relics' protection.
With a total investment of 1.2 million yuan (about 200,000 CHF) by Swiss government, Swiss official, Nicolas Peter said that this cooperation is not only for respecting Tibetan religious belief, but for confirming the friendship between Chinese and Swiss people. Peter also expressed that there would be further corporation between two countries in other fields, such as politics, culture and economy.
Ramoche Monastery, built in 7th century BC, covers an area of 4,000 square meters. With both Tibetan and Chinese styles buildings, Ramoche Monastery enshrines a statue of Sakyamuni in the major hall, which Princess Trizun took with her to Tibet from Nepal.
Ramoche Monastery was listed to be one of the fifth group national cultural relics protection units in June, 2001.
For many years, central government has invested for keeping the original appearance of Ramoche Monastery, but because of natural condition, Ramoche Monastery is confronted with danger at present. Since cooperated with Swiss government, Chinese government certainly ensures that the protection of cultural relics in Ramoche Monastery will process smoothly.
