In early December, an artillery regiment of the Shenyang Military Area Command held an award-giving ceremony for “top 10 pacemakers”. Lema Gesang, a Tibetan platoon leader and other four Tibetan soldiers were among the award-winners.
For years, the Party committee of this regiment has given all its concern to the progress of the Tibetan officers and men, and has worked out a special plan for the cultivation of them. For instance, it ran literacy make-up classes for the Tibetan soldiers to help improve their literacy level. Today everyone in the regiment vies with each other to render help to the Tibetan soldiers, and a good atmosphere of helping the Tibetan soldiers by the Party members and guiding them by the backbones prevails in the regiment. Thanks to its efforts, 59 Tibetan soldiers in this regiment have made remarkable progress in recent years, with 29 of them having joined the Party, 17 of them becoming squad leaders and 2 of them having been promoted to be officers.
