Luo Youqin is a 65 year-old veteran who once served in Tibetan army. In December 1955, he transferred from his hometown Wuhan in Hubei province to Laiyang city, Shandong province. Then one year's later, he came to Qamdo, Tibet Autonomous Region to serve in the army. He was invalid out of the army because of the wounds he received in a Rdza-yul battle. It was this battle that took away more than 480 his comrades' life.
Since retreated from the army service, he has had a dream: build an elementary school in Rdza-yul area, in which he often recollects his deep memory for his comrades.
In 1999, he opened a small grocery store in Lhasa in order to accumulate fund for opening school. At his spare time, he collects junks, which can be recycled or reused and sold them for a small amount of money.
So far, he has earmarked more than 50,000 yuan, but it is still far from enough. For building an elementary school, he needs 150,000 yuan. He said the local tobacco company had given a big hand to him, so it was hopeful to start the school construction as early as this October.
Now this old man is still collecting garbage to fulfill his long-cherished dream...
