This reserve is for protecting red gorals and other wild animals, as well as the special environment essential for their survival. There are high mountains, deep ravines, streams with rapid torrents, luxuriant forest, snow-covered peaks, and waterfalls. The reserve is characterized by the mountainous, subtropical, forest ecological system and rich wild life resources. There are 12 plants under State protection, and 50 animals under State or area protection. Found in Tibet in 1973, the red goral is one of the rarest animals in the world, and is among the animals coveted by hunters. Its population in Tibet is now less than 1,500. This reserve has become the base for protecting this animal, which is on the brink of extinction. |
